What is some 'must have' equipment for BDSM?
Aug 30, 2020
There is a plethora of BDSM equipment that many might argue are "must haves" - and, certain equipment recommendations would depend on whether you are a dom or a sub. However, there are definitely a few that should absolutely be in your arsenal, regardless of your role or level of dedication. Let's take a look at what we think should be some go-to items in your BDSM toolbox.
1. Bondage Cuffs / Restraints
A pair of bondage cuffs or restraints is an absolute must-have in any BDSM playbook. The first letter in BDSM stands for bondage and what better way is there to restrain someone? Bondage cuffs are a great way to get the fun started and keep it lasting. There are some important factors to consider when getting the right ones - it's important to find a pair that enhances the experience rather than hinder it.
Get Cuffs That are Comfortable
Often times, people will fall in love with a pair of BDSM cuffs solely because of the look. While the look is definitely important in adding to the experience, it should not be sacrificed for comfort - unless that's your thing! Usually, any welcomed pain will come from other sources and you don't want to be distracted by your wrists getting pinched.
Material Matters
Don't skimp when it comes to the material - yes, it'll be a little more expensive but you'll end up saving money in the long-term. Cheaper materials like pleather are exactly that - cheap. Especially if they plan on getting rigorous use, don't expect them to last for a very long time. There is also nothing more frustrating than a pair of cuffs breaking in the middle of play. Most people agree that leather cuffs are the way to go because of the comfortability, durability and that wonderful leather smell - we obviously love them here at VP Leather!
Get The Right Size
While most cuffs will be adjustable, it's important to get the right base size so you can adjust them to the right diameter. There are 3 common sizes of cuffs:
Regardless if your a dom or a sub, a nice pair of BDSM cuffs should be within arms-reach of your bed.
2. Ball Gag / Mouth Gag
Talk about an item that really gets you going and really sets the tone. It's important that the dom sees there sub in an attractive ball gag - trust us, you'll get a much better reaction. Additionally, comfort comes into play as well with these as well. There are two options to consider when selecting the right gag for your needs.
Ball Gag
The ball gag is what most people thing of when it comes to gags. The round nature of the ball consumes more surface area and makes it much harder to speak. Most ball gags are made of rubber or silicone - all of our ball gags are made with silicon balls so you can really sink your teeth into them.
Bit Gag
The bit gag goes away from the ball and introduces a thin rubber piece that runs horizontally across the mouth. This setup doesn't provide the same muzzling effect as the ball gag, but some prefer this due to comfort reasons.
3. Bondage Collar
There are many different types of bondage collars meant for different purposes. Obviously, the most common use is for controlling a sub certain settings, but there are also more discreet options, such as day collars, that can be worn in public that allow you to show your dedication to your dom without making anyone feel uncomfortable.
From O-ring chokers to locking collars to spiked collars, there are really options for every type of person and scenario. This is probably why bondage collars are synonymous with BDSM and is one of the most common items you see.
